SKETCHES / ARTWORK

My organic dimensional collection evolved from techniques and skills developed from constructing my Grandfathers abstract sculpture for over 12 years. So what naturally happens consciously and subconsciously when I’m in the moment or ‘my flow’ of creating sculpture, what I feel when the music fills my studio and steel is at my fingertips, is a sense of creating organic shape and form from ‘naked space’. From nothing.

Some pieces have guidelines, sketches, like a template of form which, with my forging technique I extrude dimensions using steel and manipulate this steel to create sculpture. I sometimes further this process by casting my original steel forms in Bronze. Other pieces just begin and grow and evolve from this ‘naked space’ either because I need to start a new piece and to see what happens or from other pieces I chose to take into another direction.
